Moviedom
Sometimes I read a movie review, or I see one on TV, and I think, “This movie is going to be great!”
And then I get a big letdown.
Why? I mean, how could I go wrong?
Simple: I put too much trust in incomplete movie reviews. It’s as if they don’t want to tell me that a movie has a depressing ending . . . as if they only want me to focus on the “Oscar-worthy” acting, or the “hip” humor, or the “adrenaline-pumping” action.
But really, every movie is a mixed bag, whether it’s regarded as a classic or not. So one thing only isn’t what makes or breaks a movie for people. There’s more. And reviewers simply aren’t telling us enough.
Think of this web-log not as a spoiler of movies (I hate ruining a good surprise, and all movies are like that when seen for the first time). Instead, this blog is more like a database of “truth trailers.” Here, the hype is stripped away and the movie either falls or stands on its own. I’ll let you be the judge.
(In the future, I’ll be discussing movies randomly, as I see them or think of them.)
(Plus, call me old-fashioned, because I prefer using the old-fashioned term web-log instead of the wildly popular blog … I refuse to be hip for such a blah word!)
